Roach End Barn Location Guide

Roach End Barn, Peak District

Roach End Barn is a fantastic photography location found at the end of The Roaches on the Staffordshire side of the Peak District. The Roaches is a gritstone edge that is itself a great location for photography with subject matter perfectly positioned for shooting at both sunrise and sunset. This guide focuses on Roach End Barn, but will also get you to The Roaches if you would like to shoot here.

The Peak District is bursting with fantastic locations in the area surrounding The Roaches, with Lud’s Church walking distance away and Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill just a short drive away. With such great locations close together it’s easy to spend a couple of days shooting around here. Roach End Barn can be photographed throughout the year at sunrise and sunset, although winter and sunset are perhaps the best times.

Roach End Barn postcode

To find Roach End Barn use the postcode ST13 8UA. This will take you to The Roaches, and you’ll know you’re on the right road because you’ll see The Roaches on the right. Follow the road along and you can either park in one of the free spaces next to The Roaches, and then walk along the top to the barn. It’s an enjoyable walk and takes roughly 45 minutes passing numerous interesting spots where you can take photos. See below for a map.

Alternatively, continue along the road in your car and keep going even when the road narrows and after about two miles you’ll come to a gate that will be closed. You’ll need to open the gate to pass through, and remember to shut it after you. Now continue driving for a short distance until you reach the cattle grid. On the other side of the grid you’ll find enough space for a few cars to park. From here you’ll be able to see the barn that’s now just a couple of minutes away.

Once you find the barn there are numerous viewpoints to shoot from, so it’s worth arriving earlier than sunrise or sunset so you can explore the possibilities.

Roach End Barn map

Below is a map with Roach End barn pinpointed. Parking is available at the point labelled Bearstone Rock, or if you prefer you can park at the other end of The Roaches and walk along the edge to the barn. This takes roughly 45 minutes.
