Discover Cymru Calendar 2020

Misty sunrise in Dee Valley above Llangollen

I’m delighted to announce that my image of mist rolling into Dee Valley, near Llangollen in North Wales at sunrise has been selected to be featured in the Discover Cymru Calendar 2020. This image was taken during my second visit to the location where weather conditions were looking promising for mist, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

During my first visit the morning before, I was positioned lower down the hill and could see this higher viewpoint, but the morning was grey with uninteresting light so I decided to head to this spot the following morning. After several sunrise shoots that week an early start the day I was driving home wasn’t the most attractive proposition, but I’m glad I got there in time to witness this stunning scene. This was actually the first shot of the morning and the best, although I did manage to capture an upright version before the mist quickly disappeared.

One of the aspects of this image that makes it so important to me is that the location isn’t particularly well known to photographers and the composition is one I’ve never seen before. In such an image saturated world where photographers flock to the same locations, often capturing nearly identical images, there’s always something special about capturing something unique.
